A. Describe what is meant with socioeconomic inequality in health, and discuss some empirical examples.
B. Compare different approaches (universal vs selective) to tackle socioeconomic health inequalities in relation to the examples you described above, and discuss some pros and cons of the different main strategies.
C. Discuss some of the challenges the application of these strategies face when taking into account different cultural contexts.
D. Working with public health initiatives to reduce socioeconomic inequalities in health may entail initiatives aiming to influence and change the ways in which people think and act, which would mean that medicine plays the role of a ‘moral entrepreneur’ (Freidson, 1970: 252). Discuss the problematic sides of such a role, via examples.
