Guided Response: Prior to responding to your peers, read the additional articles listed within the discussion. You will post initial postings to a minimum of two students who addressed differing content than you did. Responses to students replying to yours to further validate your understanding is encouraged. Respond to at by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse.
Be thorough with your peers by discussing your findings from their assigned readings. Do your interpretations align or are you able to bring increased understanding of the content through your replies?
Add your perspective on the article your peer read.

Week 5 Discussion
Apply skeptical inquiry to a brief discussion about why language acquisition is an important area for scholars and educators to understand when developing learning opportunities.
Language is extremely important in all aspects of human growth, development, and life in general. Language is our primary form of communication, and the way which we express thoughts, feelings, and ideas to other people. Not only does it allow us to verbally communicate with others, but also to write down thoughts and concepts that can then be passed on to others and internalizedwhat we think of when we classically think of learning. Understanding language, where it comes from, how its obtained, and how its use is very important when discussing trying to teach someone anything, or when discussing how to learn something.
Choose and define three new vocabulary terms from the weeks readings and explain your interest in these concepts.
Acquisition Learning and/or developing a skill, habit, or quality; can occur academically or practically (Ornat & Gallo, 2004).
Self-determination The control and power that a person has and exudes over their own life (Legault & Inzlicht, 2013).
Development In psychology, the series of changes that allow us to grow in areas like function and behavioral patterns; may be physical, psychological, intellectual, or social (Ornat & Gallo, 2004).
Discuss how additional factors of self-regulation (N-S), might affect language acquisition.
When a person exercises self-regulation, they are practicing discipline and determination. As very young children, the concept of language acquisition is automatic, and now something that we have to think about or put any real energy into (Ornat & Gallo, 2004). When we start to age and look at language as more than just a means to communicate, but also as an opportunity to grow out vocabulary and overall intellect, more effort and determination needs to be put into this task (Legault & Inzlicht, 2013). For example, obtaining a larger, more specific vocabulary is required for almost any career path, as it helps the person to understand exactly whats being asked of them in their day-to-day work, and this would require some time and effort to learn.
Apply the concept of language acquisition to your own academic success. Has your own language development affected your success as a student? As an employee? How? Based on the resources and your current knowledge, do you believe you could develop areas of language acquisition, personally, that would be beneficial to you, your loved ones, or your friends?
Over the course of the time I have spent both as a student and in my profession, I think that my vocabulary has grown quite a lot. I have had to learn some very specific terms that will aid my understanding of the concepts that I face each day in both of these areas. By studying these terms, as well as using them on a daily basis, I have internalized them to the point of being able to both understand and use them properly. I also agree that furthering development of vocabulary and language acquisition is important to personal and social development, as it makes you a more informed and affective communicator.
