Ask 5 people (family, friends, or acquaintances) to define family. Be sure to ask as diverse of a group of people as possible, for example people of different genders, races, ethnicities, age groups, sexual orientations, and/or social classes and note these differences in your summary. After reading chapter 1, summarize the results of your survey. Are their definitions the same as yours or are they different? How do they differ from each other? Be sure to include a discussion of what these results disclose about the ideal of the nuclear family. (The definition for nuclear family is in Ch. 2 on page 36, but it is addressed in Ch. 1, so please use the material from both chapters as they pertain to nuclear families in your response.)
