“In your opinion, what steps can a parent or caregiver and/or schools take to help ensure that a child is at less risk of ‘delayed’ development and/or insecure attachment?
I think that it’s a symboiotic relationship between the parents and schools to create a healthy environment for the child. The parent or caregiver should establish a nurturing connection with the child from birth or earliest point. They should develop the child through socializing, practicing life skills, and other ways to ensure the child is functioning in a healthy manner. Then, when the child reaches school age, the school should be checking in to make sure the child is being taken care of home as a start. Once the child begins school, the institution should set up challenges to test and develop the child’s critical thinking in a way that supports them even if they fall. The school should also work with parents to enroll the child in extra curricular activites to help socialize and develop the child’s skills. The saying, “A village raises the child” in our society should mean that the parents, school, and community are taking steps to ensure that each child’s individual needs and development is taken care of.”
