The actual assignment
1. Find two different crimes within the Texas statutes discussed above. One should be
a violent crime and one a non-violent crime. You will do the following steps twice,
one for each crime:
2. Give the location of that statute (ex: Penal Code, Title 7, Chapter 29, Sec. 29.02)
3. Discuss which elements are described within the legal description of that crime.
4. Identify what level(s) of misdemeanor/felony that crime is considered to be. Give
the punishment range typically associated with that level (ex: second degree felony
typically carries a range of 2 to 20 years in prison)
5. Finally, discuss if you think that punishment range is appropriate for that crime. Give
reasoning. (There is no right or wrong answer, this is purely your academic opinion)
