As the culmination of the Your Home in History Assignment, you will write a final paper
showing how your chosen region changed during the Jacksonian Era and using your region as a
case study to demonstrate how a specific theme of our studies worked out in a particular
location.
Scholarly research and writing improves critical thinking and communication abilitiesskills
necessary for any career path. This assignment is also designed to help you see the connection
you and your community have with the past while reinforcing the significance the Jacksonian
Era holds to nearly every location in America.
INSTRUCTIONS
The text of your paper must be 6-8 pages long, not including the title page and bibliography
page. It must include properly formatted Turabian Notes-Bibliography style citations to each
source included on your bibliography page. At a minimum, you must use ten sources. Two of
those sources must be primary sources. See how citations are formatted in the Turabian sample
paper available from the LUO Writing Center website.
In addition to an introduction and conclusion, the paper must include three sections:
(1) Show how your chosen region developed and changed during the Jacksonian Era (1815-
1850s). Consider demographics, culture, and economy.
(2) Introduce one of the course themes (listed below) and provide scholarly context for how
that theme was significant during the Jacksonian Era.
(3) Show how your region was a case study of that themes broader development across the
nation during the Jacksonian Era. How did the theme work out in specific ways in your
region?
Note that the region and theme you write about for the final paper needs to correlate to those you
researched for the Your Home in History: Topic Proposal Assignment and Your Home in
History: Primary Source Reflection Assignment. Those are scaffolded assignments meant to
help you move forward with the final paper as the end goal.
Here is a list of course themes that you could choose to connect to your region for this project.
