Part I: The first 3 weeks

On the assignment list for this course is an assignment labeled “Part I: First Essay.” Inside is a list of topic areas that we have chosen from among the materials covered in the courses you’ve taken throughout our program. Inside of each topic area is a list of 3-5 articles that we’ve selected on that topic.

Start by choosing one of the topics. It might make sense to choose the topic that most interests you or that is of the most relevance to your career goals.
Read each of the articles listed for that topic. Read them carefully – the key will be knowing them well enough to be able to accurately explain them to others.
Then, you must obtain one additional article on the topic. Do this by conducting a literature search on Google Scholar / PsycInfo / etc. This additional article should help inform what you are going to write about.
Write your essay exam (see the “essay exam guidelines” section below for what this should contain) and submit it by the due date listed in the syllabus.
After a few days, the exam leader will give you feedback on your first essay along with a grade.
If your essay was judged to be satisfactory, you can proceed with Part II.
If your essay was not satisfactory, you will have one week to resubmit it.
Part II: The last 3 weeks

Once you have received feedback and received a satisfactory grade on the first essay, you will now need to do this again. Open the “Part II: Second Essay” section of Canvas. Inside will be a new set of topics. The general procedure for Part II is the same as for Part I.

Choose a new topic for your second essay. This topic must be chosen from the Part II section of the course. You may not go back and use one of the other Part I topics.
Again, carefully read each of the articles.
Obtain at least one additional article related to this topic.
Write your essay and submit it by the due date listed on the syllabus

There are two possible topics for your second essay. For this round, you will need to show your research skills by finding each article online (google scholar, ASU Library, etc.). All of them are available for free full-text.

FEEDBACK FROM PART 1 ESSAY: (attaching ESSAY 1 ALSO with additional feedback)
Jose, You have a good start at identifying the key points from some of the articles. However, there are several areas in your paper that require improvement. I will outline some of the primary areas needing improvement next. First, while you cited the assigned articles, you have not clearly discussed and/or adequately discussed required aspects of all articles. That is, your paper is missing one or more of the following for some of the articles: a discussion of the study purpose, procedures, significant empirical findings, and conclusions from each article. Remember to also provide this information for the additional article. Second, remember to include all required essay components. While you have a good start at identifying common themes and proposing best practice recommendations; please see my comments (in the attached paper) for ways to strengthen both of these sections. Also, remember that you must cite the research throughout your discussion of both components. Currently, your paper does not include a discussion of future research directions, but remember this is a required component that must be included to be eligible to earn a passing grade. Third, work on the overall narrative of your paper, explaining how each paper fits within the bigger picture of false confessions, and really focus on explaining the significance of each paper. What is the main thesis about false confessions you would like to communicate to a general audience? What story do all the articles tell when taken as a whole? How do they each individually contribute to that narrative? What is most important for the reader to takeaway?. Finally, your paper contains some APA formatting errors (primarily in the References section). Please review the APA resources I have provided on Canvas and the highlights (red and yellow) in your paper to make the necessary revisions. Please review the attached graded paper for more specific feedback. Incorporating this feedback into your next paper will be critical to earn a passing grade.
