Sarawak is a state in Malaysia. It is located in the northwest of the island of Borneo and has borders with Brunei and Indonesia. Sarawak has a population of roughly 2.6 million people, with ethnic groupings such as Iban, Malay, Chinese, Melanau, Bidayuh and more types of ethnic. The state is also known as ′The Land of Hornbills.′ Sarawak′s coat-of-arms features the hornbill, and the state′s name is derived from the bird′s name. In Sarawak, hornbills come in different shapes and sizes, from little to gigantic, standing more than two metres tall. Sarawak is divided into four regions: Kuching, Samarahan, Sarikei, and Sibu, and has a population of 2,000,000 people. Kuching is the capital city. Sarawak is also located on the northwest coast of the island of Borneo. Sarawak has a total size of 137,000 square kilometres and is surrounded by the Malaysian states of Sabah to the north and west, and Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) to the south.
