It’s one of the popular books on Early Modern world history and the chapters are shorter than usual book chapters. Frankopan explains the historical development of the Eurasian continent from the perspective of rising connections and exchanges among civilizations. He rejects the Eurocentric concept of historical development and instead constructs his argument based on the Silk Road exchange in the heart of the Eurasian continent and its importance in the emergence of globalized connections among civilizations. As you read through the chapters, you will see how the rise of trade exchanges and networks between different religious societies (Christianity and Islam), nomadic societies and sedentary empires impacted the development of the connected world through the exchange of knowledge and ideas; war and conquests.
