“Essay 1”, you are required to focus on a specific area or issue within the field of alcohol and other drug problems and other related addiction issues. (Which I have already submitted and I’ll be attaching here for your reference.)
The overall task (i.e. on completion of both assignments) is that you demonstrate a clear and full understanding of that relevant area or issue and that you are able to argue your own position on that area of issue.
Your material must incorporate an exploration of one or more of the five critical dilemmas discussed throughout the course.
The work will be assessed on how well the essay incorporates research and theory into a critical appraisal of the area of issue. You are strongly encouraged to discuss the development of your work as it proceeds.
Please consider these criteria.
Criteria
1. Background
The extent to which the essay identifies its goals, focus, scope and the student’s position on the issues discussed. Also, the extent to which the essay maintains this focus as it progresses.
2. Sources
Use of literature to back up the main points in the argument of the essay and the extent to which the key sources are examined in detail.
3. Critical Appraisal
The extent to which the essay synthesizes ideas, both novel and from other people, and the extent it critiques the evidence cited. Also, the extent to which the student’s position on the issues is clearly presented and reflected on.
