For this project, you are required to research and analyze a real-life criminal event pertaining to several topics we talked about over the semester. The criminal event you choose is up to you, but you cannot pick one that we talk at length about in class. Make sure that is it one that I can easily find information about. Shows such as Dateline, 48 Hours ect. Might give you some ideas. Keep in mind that the focus of this paper is on victimization and not the offender. It can be any type of victimization we talk about in class (violent, property, cyberbullying, hate crime, ect.). Papers should be about 5 pages long not including title page and reference page. These cases are off-limits because we talk about them in class or wrote about them previously. – Gabbi Petito – The Ghislaine Maxwell trial - Chanel Miller (Brock Turner’s victim) – University of Montana rape cases – Amanda Todd – Audrie & Daisy • This is not an exhaustive list, more may be added. If you are unsure, please ask. Here is what you need to include in your paper: – A synopsis of the event (around 1 page). Make sure you focus on the victim and the victimization event, rather than the offender. – What are some theories and/or risk factors that can explain this event? – Was the victim part of a special population? – What were some consequences to the victim? – What was the response of the community? – Did the event bring about any policy changes? What were they and were they effective at preventing future events? Make sure that you use APA 7 format and include a title page, references, headings and subheadings.
