Based on your reflection of your readings in this course about the beginning of African American literature through present day, write about your understanding of at least three diverse pieces of literature from the course and how each piece is relevant to today. Be sure to point out how the literature you discuss is derived from the culture of the time/period in which it was written.
Guidelines
1. One introductory paragraph that introduces the three literary pieces you will discuss. The introductory paragraph should contain four to five sentences that introduce the texts, authors, and time periods relevant to your discussion. Be sure to properly paraphrase and cite your information.
2. The introductory paragraph should also contain a thesis statement arguing something that combines all three texts relevant to the prompt. You may combine themes, characterization, time period characteristics as relevant to a combination of texts, etc.
3. The introductory paragraph should contain three supporting sentences (advanced organizers) in addition to the the sentences that introduce the literary pieces and thesis statement.
4. Body paragraphs should contain not less than 8 sentences per paragraph. Eight sentences are a minimum and should not be considered well-developed if the paragraph has not properly met all guidelines.
3. Usage of two examples per literary piece from each time period per body paragraph. Use in-text citations to reference the literary pieces or research articles relevant to your essay discussion. There should be no less than four different in-text citations in each paragraph. You may use any combination of your sources for each paragraph, but each paragraph must contain at least 4 different citations. You will need to have a works cited or references page.
