In 1000-1500 words, compare and contrast Mill’s utilitarian ethics and Kant’s deontological ethics. Be sure to include a discussion of what sorts of factors each theory considers to be morally relevant factors in rendering moral judgments, to describe how each theory defines the good life at which moral actions aim, and to explain the decision-making model provided by each theory. You may use your textbook as your primary source and should consult Mill’s book Utilitarianism and Kant’s book Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals as needed. Both of these latter texts are available in the library, and full text may be available online from other sources. Be sure to include quotes, where appropriate, and to attribute key ideas to their authors via a standardized referencing and citation format. You should make use of the lecture notes as well, but do not cite the lecture notes as a source.
