The essay I want to write is about feminist, political, and rebellious symbols or codes in the paintings of Arpita Singh. For example, I know that airplanes are a sexual code symbolizing pleasure. She talks a lot about sexuality, she paints women as goddesses. I was planning to choose at least 2 or 3 paintings by them and analyze these symbols, from this feminist perspective. Or I could also choose two or three symbols that are repeated in those paintings and deconstruct them. Why the need to use codes/symbols? – India is a conservative society, fear of rebellion?
