Blood banking often provides unique case studies and puzzles to solve. Throughout the course, you have been given background information and been asked to draw conclusions about the situation. In this exercise, you will be given the answer to one of these puzzles. The patient outcome will be described. It is your task to write a narrative describing the specific situation that resulted in the outcome presented. In your narrative you should provide details regarding the following: patient characteristics (age, relevant history, symptoms, etc.) disease process (pathology and how it relates to BB situation) clinical factors (variables related to disease, lab results, etc.) immunohematology testing and intervention (detailed results, products given, etc.) problem solving techniques (what would the BB tech do?) laboratory results (blood banking and others that are relevant) Provide as much information as possible to give a complete picture. Organize your data and present your narrative chronologically and logically. You should provide a story, not bulleted facts or phrases to describe patient details. Tests and results should be clearly outlined and labeled appropriately.
