PRIOR TO BEGINNING PROJECT
Operationally define the behavior that you wish to observe and the treatment/intervention to be used.
Decide which type of recording is best suited to monitor the behavior.
Decide when and where to observe the behavior.
Determine how long each observation will last (or how long the intervals will last if using interval recording). Ten to twenty minutes is often adequate, but…more time spent observing =more accurate results.
Determine a plan to check the reliability and social validity of your observations.
Determine what experimental design will be utilized. Use a design that rules out both individual differences and time coincidences (i.e., reversal or multiple baseline).
BEGIN PROJECT
Observe and collect the data during baseline(s) and treatment(s) conditions based on your experimental design.
Conduct multiple observation sessions in order to create a more representative profile.
Compute rate/ratio of occurrence and plot on graph. Must have a minimum of three data points in conditions, preferably many more.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 several times.
FINAL STAGE OF PROJECT
Write a 4-5 page paper (excluding the title page, abstract, and reference page) detailing your project using APA format (APA Publication Manual 7th edition format). Include a graph that summarizes the collected data. A proper title, abstract, and reference page (total 7-8 pages with title, abstract, and reference page, with a minimum of 3 references), as well as APA in text citations, are required in the paper. (100 Points). See Self-Management Project Guidelines for Writing Paper and review scoring rubric for requirements.
