Rationale: This assignment aims to support students’ understanding of how their work
in human services goes beyond just direct work with clients but how social, political,
and systematic changes are necessary for personal transformation, including staying
engaged in current issues that impact the human service field and advocacy that is
needed along with this. All must be done by holding standards of information gathering
and synthesizing accurately and ethically.
What is a political movement?: A political movement is a collective attempt to change
government policy or social values. Some theories of political movements are the
political opportunity and resource mobilization theories, which state that political
movements stem from mere circumstances, and the resource mobilization theory,
which states that political movements result from a strategic organization and relevant
resources. (Wikipedia, 2021)
Objectives: In completing this assignment, it is intended that students will be working
toward the mastery of the following CSHSE Curriculum Standards for Associate
Degree Programs and Core Content and Outcomes for HUS 141: Direct Human
Services.
● CSHSE Standard 14: The curriculum shall provide knowledge and skills in
information literacy.
