Identify the basic management and procedural steps for the conduct of an aviation safety investigation. 5. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of aircraft performance, aircraft structures and the flight environment relevant to aviation safety investigations. Assignment Instructions: In this assignment you are taking the role of an external reviewer of the investigation of ONE of two Air Accident reports. To do this you will draw on the knowledge content provided in the course materials, text and additional research to demonstrate your understanding when looking at the operational, design and mechanical contributing factors in accidents. You need to critically review the filed Accident Report: 1. Review the quality and accuracy of the information obtained, for example, what evidence is supplied from whom and what does it/doesn’t it cover? Is there anything missing – what, why is this important and how might it effect the report? 2. Comment on how you would obtain information from this sort of accident if you were faced with it. If following operational procedures, you need to reference these and then provide your personal commentary on what you would do, why and how. Identify limitations of your approach. 3. Critique the findings on the contributing factors/issues identified in the report including human factors. Assignment Format: To explain technical information, provide maps, diagrams, tables, site accident plans and photographs where appropriate.
