Part II-Screening and Assessment
Summary of the Presenting Issue
For this section, please summarize the information submitted in part I of etiology labeled Presenting Problem. This information can include but is not limited to the nature of the problem of alcohol (mental health, substance use, or co-occurring). Describe signs (visible signs of addiction which is typically intoxication and or withdrawal that suggests chemical dependency has developed, the frequency and intensity of the signs youve observed, the clients statements about the impact the substance has or had, the consequences of using the substance (benefits and risks of using must be identified and you as the counselor can incorporate research of positive or initial effects of using that substance), and different areas of life that have been impacted (e.g. how has it impacted the client at home, work, school, community, relationships, parenting, marriage, etc.) including mental, emotional, behavioral, and social consequences. Due to this section being a summary, limit this section to a paragraph.
Rationale of Screening and Assessment
This section should provide literature that supports the development of screening and assessments in the counseling field. For example, provide references that supports the evolution of screening and assessment in the counseling field. Elaborate on the rationale and value of screening and assessments in substance abuse treatment. This section should be no more than two paragraphs and is a brief historical account of screening and assessments in this field as a whole. Information can include but is not limited to the following: the establishment of screening and assessment as an area of assessment, historical or key figures, first use and intentions in developing and administering screening and assessments to client, if there are or were significant or key experiments, evidence to support the need of screening and assessments to provide more context of the mental health and substance issues in clients, etc.
Screening and Assessment in Substance Abuse Treatment
This section should elaborate on general concepts you introduced in the previous section Rationale of Screening and Assessment. In this section, provide an introduction to screening and assessment in addiction medicine. Explore the use of assessments to identify the appropriate diagnoses, differential diagnoses or rule out criteria, evaluation of the severity of the disease and disease progression, prognosis, for example. Identify fundamental experiments or studies specific to assessments that assess the substance of choice based on the film that you selected and introduced in part I of the case conceptualization. For example, if the substance is alcohol, this section would explore the evolution of assessments and screening to explore alcoholism. This can include the rationale for these assessments, current knowledge in the field about alcoholism and the use of screenings and assessments to further understand the disease, progression, prognosis, and the use of screenings and assessments in identifying the appropriate level of care or treatment. This section should be 2-3 paragraphs.
Screening and Assessments for Alcohol
In this section, you will identify 2-3 three assessments that you would use to assess the client identified in part I of this assignment. Use the two links included in the announcement with this template to obtain a list of instruments specific to addiction. Once you select 2-3 assessments or measures, you will name the instrument, the names of the creators, when the measure was initially created AND if there are newer or adapted versions of the assessment (if there are, then what is the reason and who is the population these instruments are normed on. This information will be needed to later explore cultural factors in the diagnosis section or part 3 of this assignment), describe the reason you selected these assessments, appropriateness, the purpose and rationale of these assessments, what these assessments identify, scoring, and the meaning or interpretation of these scores (which is typically included in the scoring guide attached to some assessments). This information may be obtained directly from the assessment OR you may need to conduct a literature review on the clinicians that developed the assessment using the library to obtain information about these instruments. This section should be 2-3 paragraphs.
Part III-Diagnoses (No more than 3 pages double spaced)
Introduction to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V)
In this section, provide an introduction to the development of the DSM-V. This section can include the development of the manual, the reason for the creation of the DSM-V compared to the DSM-IV, significant revisions that were made to create the DSM-V and the rationale, and more specifically, revisions made to the addictive disorders. This section should not exceed
