As part of this assignment, you are asked to imagine that the NSW Parliament is seeking submissions from relevant stakeholders in the field of youth justice (e.g. police, legal aid, case managers, adolescent psychologists, advocacy groups, teachers and researchers). You will write a briefing paper, based on one of the provided proposals. This assignment supports Subject Learning Outcomes 1, 3 and 4. Assignment details Read through the following information to understand and meet the requirements of this assignment: Proposal Select one of the following proposals and write a briefing paper that advises the NSW Parliament of the possible consequences, of the proposal in question, for young people in NSW. Proposal 1: Allocate $25 million of state funds to build a new youth detention centre. Proposal 2: Amend the Young Offences Act 1997 (NSW) to introduce the option of youth justice conferencing for sex offenders. Format This task requires that the format of a briefing paper be followed. A briefing paper should include the following: Introduction: A succinct summary of the issues, including your stance on the issue. Background: A relevant and brief background to the issue. Research and analysis of the proposal: A concise analysis of the issue and policy implications. Recommendation and conclusion: A conclusion and recommendation for action (must be supported by evidence). These should be used as headings.
