There will be 2 questions to answer:
Each question will have between 800-1000 words. Answers longer than 1100 words will be penalized. The completed therefore will range between 1600-2000 words. Each answer will be an essay-based answer and consist of a thesis statement and be supported with evidence from the course materials.
Please place word count at the end of your answer.
CMS style citations is not required for this exam. However, you MUST refer to the source where your information comes from. This should be done within your sentence that uses the information, so it is clear where the information was sourced from. For example, “… as we learned in the lecture for Week 8…” or “As chapter 2 states….” Lacking this type of citation will be reflected in your mark.
Question 1 will be: 1. Through this course we have examined several ways that Indigenous peoples in Canada have asserted their agency and resistance to colonial policies. Write an argumentative essay in response to this statement: “Indigenous peoples in Canada have resisted colonial policies that aimed to eliminate them and to ensure that treaty and Indigenous rights are honoured.”

Questions 2 and 3. Choose ONE of these questions to answer. Your answer must not excessively repeat information used to answer Question #1.
Choose either 2. For a long time, histories written about Indigenous peoples focused on men and ignored the topic of gender. Write an essay in response to this prompt: “Gender has had an effect on the experience of Indigenous peoples in Canada since 1870.”

Or 3. We finished this course by discussing reconciliation. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to action provide a road map for reconciliation in Canada. The TRC Call to action 62 states:
