An excerpt consists of roughly 4 or more sentences. It must be long enough to demonstrate the philosopher’s “statement of belief” with surrounding logic. Each excerpt should ideally be from a different text, either by or about the philosopher, or at least from a significantly different section of the same book. This way an overall view of the philosopher and her/his most important ideas will be obtained. Explain the meaning of the excerpt, how it fits into the overall structure of the philosopher’s thought, the strength and weakness of the excerpt, and its importance to our lives.
