This is a very important document that was published on 2019 by the NAEYC Governing Board. It is 1 of 5 foundational documents that define the early childhood profession.
Start on page 1 to see the overall focus of this Statement. Please read page 3 regarding the PURPOSE of this document. You can click on each of the documents or the circles in the logo on that page to learn more about them. We will examine the updated Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) document later in this course.
Read the Recommendations for Everyone on page 6.
Study the Recommendations for Early Childhood Educators on page 7-8.
Focus on Observe, Document, and Assess Childrens Learning and Development on page 8.
Write a 3 paragraph paper focused on these 3 principles of observation on page 8. It should be about 275-300 words total, double spaced.
Focus on point #1. Describe how YOU are aware of your own culture or bias and how YOU can create objective data, with a heart of inquiry as you observe children.
How do YOU focus on the child’s strengths rather than weaknesses?
How will YOU take to heart these principles when YOU observe children? Make it personal and describe your own goals to advance equity as you observe the children in your care.
