PROMPT: Please watch the video above. Chapter six discusses memory and how it relates to the field of psychology. As you can see in the video above, there is such a thing as a false memory. Witnesses to crimes give incorrect and contradictory information to police when questioned all of the time, and as you can imagine, this could negatively impact someone’s life in a very serious way.
First, based on your reading of chapter six, what process of memory (from the three processes discussed in the text) do you think plays the largest role in someone being able to create false memories? Second, I want you to research and find one REAL life example of a person that was convicted of a crime that they did not commit based on someone else’s false memory. List their name, what crime they were accused of, and the details of the situation. You can use a non-academic source to find this information, but when answering the first question, be sure to use an academic source such as your textbook.
