You will be working on four poems by Seamus Heaney. The poems are Personal Helicon, Black-berry Picking, Digging, and Follower.
Broad connection: Childhood
Sub connection 1 (Personal Helicon/Black-berry Picking): Loss of innocence
Sub connection 2 (Digging/Follower): Relationship with father
Include some specific details of Heaney’s childhood at Mossbawn – the family farm and his Irish heritage and cultural context. Also try and make theme a bit more specific – eg Images and depictions of childhood in Heaney’s poetry. Enf of innocence is a good sub-connection but relationships needs to be connected to overall theme more – perhaps Childhood experiences and relationships which influenced Heaney’s poetry.
