Students will develop a group presentation related to a topic of a mental health issue. The group will identify & analyze the significance of the problem in relation to some unique aspect of mental health & client care, which serves to broaden the knowledge of all students in the class & community.
2. The group will develop a “burning question” or hypothesis & topic due by 3/6/22. A representative from each group can submit a draft for approval to proceed. Once approved, the students may start reviewing literature for the presentations. (VIA Black board email).
They can submit a draft of the topic & question to both courses (Psych & Research) for review.
Topics can be on a burning question about mental health or Covid and mental health across the life span (using different age groups: school-age children 6-12, adolescents 12 – 20, Early adulthood 20-35, Middle adulthood 35-65, Later years 65 -90. Students need to identify the population they will be addressing in the question.
2. They can submit rough drafts of teaching plan for poster before 4/9/22 for feedback. The final draft teaching plan for the presentations will be due by April 14, 2022. They can practice or complete the poster board presentations on 4/22/22. They should be ready to present on Tuesday April 26, 2022.
3. The group will submit a teaching learning plan on the topic of interest & “burning question” to be presented. The topic of interest formed into a “burning question” may include any aspect of mental health, symptomatology, diagnosis, treatment, community resources, psychopharmacology, and/or rehabilitation. The group questions must be approved by faculty to avoid duplication of topics.
The teaching learning plan will present the “burning question”, rationale for choice, outcome expected to find, significance of the problem/topic (Why is this important in this population), 3 objectives for the audience, Summary of evidence-based (research) article: Discuss correlation of article with topic or client description &/or with real life situations in mental health. (your experiences). Discuss 5 proposed interventions based on evidence based research & provide a level of evidence. Conclusion of findings: (Expected outcomes? How will you apply these findings to nursing?). Reference minimum of 2 research articles in APA format. Presentation should be concise & within 10-15 minutes time frame.
4. The MH group presentation (based on teaching plan) will be displayed on a Tri-fold poster presentation format. Each group member will individually present on an area of the presentation & provide a brief summary of your topic with evidence-based (research) findings. (Refer to Black board for rubric form).
The poster tri-fold poster presentation for the event is similar to the science fair project. Things to include in poster tri-fold: 1. Topic, question. 2. Significance or Purpose (why is this information important?) 3. What did you find out reviewing in the literature? 4. What are 5 interventions you could do & why (rationale)? 5. Conclusion (What did you learn from this & future application) 6. Names of group members 7. APA References citation
