Choose ONE of the following topics and write a 2-3 page paper in MLA format. You need to quote both a primary source(s) and a secondary source (preferably from the Mercy Library). Be sure to have a title, running headers, and a Works Cited page. Please do not use or consult study guides such as Schmoop, Spark Notes, Lit Crit, etc. Be sure to attach as a WORD document, NOT a PDF or Googledoc.
1. Analyze one work read to date using New Criticism. This is the approach commonly used in schools. To do so, you would analyze the work’s formal elements ( allusions, symbols, imagery, similes and metaphors, characterization, setting, etc.).
2. There are many ways other than New Criticism to approach a text. These include feminist, queer, sociocultural, psychoanalytical, among others. Choose one text and discuss it from one of these perspectives.
3. How is the Other portrayed in one or more works read to date.
