Classroom Connections Presentation
One common critique of second language acquisition research is that it does not readily lend itself to application
in the classroom – that is, teachers find it difficult to know how to incorporate the research in the field in their
teaching. This semester you will have the chance to translate SLA research to teaching in a short 10-minute
presentation for your classmates at the beginning of class. Choose one topic on the syllabus or in the course
readings that you think could inform language teaching curricula, lesson plans, or activities and present teaching
connections based on the research. Some examples might include how to use narrative activities to incorporate learner identity in
the class,You can present an example of teaching materials you might use or talk about a research study that has examined the effectiveness of using the strategy you are discussing. You may use prior research that has examined connections between SLA
research and language teaching, but you should cite those studies in your presentation.
