Client Population Reflection
A dominate population in the State of Florida using the health care system is the geriatric population. Within this population there are many diverse elements making the subgroups unique, such as culture, level of health, acceptance of recommended treatment etc. As a healthcare professional, we often have to effectively use our communication skills to gather and interpret information from a patient. Using Chapters 3, 6, and 7 in your textbook as a guide, you are being asked to practice your communication skills, professionalism knowledge, and understanding of compliance to interview an individual who would be considered to be a member of the geriatric population.
Please take a moment and reflect on your potential role in the health care field. In a question/answer format, please respond to the following questions. The task is to submit responses in a Word document. The responses should be a least a paragraph long and supported by research or your readings, even if the research is from your textbook. Even though some of the questions are asking about your emotions and feelings, remember to back your reasoning with research also including in-text citations and references.
1. When working with patients, you will need to obtain needed information from patients in order to help in the diagnosis process. In thinking about the various questions you may need to ask, which questions do you think may be a challenge for you to ask the geriatric population? the pediatric population? Why would these be challenging questions for you?
2. What are some things you may need to consider when working with the geriatric and pediatric populations?
3. If you were to be working in your selected health care field, what precautions would you need to consider while working with the geriatric population during the current health crisis?
4. With the current health care crisis, what was your initial reaction as a civilian? What are some things you need to consider in for you to handle the situation as a health care professional? Does this situation make you reconsider your goal to enter the healthcare field?
5. In reading Chapter 6 in you textbook, what are some key points you learned about caring for your patients. Consider points about addressing mental illness, physical disabilities, psychological needs, and/or terminal illness concerns and write a paragraph with the summary of you points.
