The essays focus on the genre of short stories. Choose a short story we have not covered in class. Provide your definition of a good short story. Summarize the story (in few sentences to a paragraph – not the whole paper). Analyze the short story. You can address its meaning to you, society, or the world. In addition, you may explore the historical or author’s background. You can discuss symbolism, themes, points of view, characters, settings, writing styles, etc. You can be as creative as you’d like with the short story essays; however they should follow the Modern Language Association’s style of documentation. The essays should have a parenthetical reference (from the short story, when quoting words or sentences from it) and also a Works Cited page (the source where you obtained the story). The paper should be double-spaced, 12 point font, and Times New Roman which follows the Modern Language Association’s style of documentation for English papers.
