Your objective is to write a three to four page response to each book. (The due dates are above.) This is not a book report, such as you might have done in middle school or high school, nor is it a formal essay, such as you might have written in ENG 102 or one your literature classes. Your goal is to respond to the book not as a literary critic, but as a writer. This means you should be writing in the first person; you should be talking about what you liked and didn’t like; and you should be talking about what you learned from the book about writing—something you think you might like to imitate or otherwise try out in your work or something that you noticed that you now think you do not want to be part of your work. You should also be writing about whether you think the poet has achieved what you understand the goal(s) of the book to be.
You should refer to specific language, using direct quotes and giving page numbers in MLA format when you do.
You should make sure that you give full bibliographical information for your book at the end of your paper.
