Students will compose a 2500-3000 word paper which includes at least three major sections developing the
following areas, with an appropriate introduction and conclusion. The paper should also provide an abstract
of no more than 100 words at the front and a bibliography at the back, which can be included in the all-inclusive word count.
The student is to use at least six (6) scholarly and peer-reviewed sources beyond the assigned readings
from the disciplines of psychology, philosophy, theology, sociology, or other related disciplines.
1) A Theology-Philosophy of the Human Self
The student is to provide a research-based account of their own theology and/or philosophy of the human
being, of the self. This can include a wide range of emphases, and choosing the most salient topics for
research and presenting an account of the human is part of the task of this paper. Students may utilize
course-assigned materials in research as well as their minimum of six (6) additional sources to compose
this portion of the paper.
2) A Moral Basis for a Social Ethic in Relationship to the Student’s Vocation
The second part of the paper is a moral theology and/or philosophy and social ethic related to the student’s
intended vocation in some area of counseling psychology. Thus the student is to make connections between
the student’s theological and/or philosophical anthropology, morality, social ethics, and the student’s
vocation. This portion of the paper should include research into these moral-ethical dynamics involved in
vocational practices which are related to certain convictions regarding human beings.
3) Area of Advocacy and Justice
The third part of the papers should identify an area of advocacy which can be addressed through the
student’s intended vocational work. This part of the paper will develop an approach that will envision areas
of enaction of the student’s moral philosophy or social ethic or convictions about justice, considering
possible ways this might be practiced in the student’s vocational calling.
