The purpose of this paper is to argue about the importance or prevalence of larger social issues in the literature of the nineteenth century. Essay must be at least 4 pages long and in MLA format. Essay must have works cited page as well. For this essay, we have to choose one of the major 19th century issues and i have chosen “the woman question as it relates to women’s roles, women’s rights and society at large” and we have to pick two authors, which i picked Mary Wollstonecraft and Kate Chopin. We have to make sure that we create a clear thesis that presents your point of view about how different writers are presenting the social issue we have chosen. We must use internal citations to give credit to our chosen authors. So, when constructing this essay, we need to create an introduction that discusses your chosen social issue and chosen authors, end the introduction with your thesis, support your thesis w fully explained evidence from the text and conclude your essay with why you feel this issue was/is important one. Remember that we want to choose a point of view, or in other words, pick a side, both works were equally strong or one is better than the other. Here is an example my professor gave us, “In the nineteenth century, many writers, as well as society as a whole, were concerned with the ways in which women’s roles were changing. One the one hand, writers like Jane Austen were using satire and humor to express their disapproval of the limited roles for women, while, at the same time, writers like Mary Wollstonecraft were using impassioned argument to persuade their audience that women’s roles needed to be expanded. Ultimately, Mary Wollstonecraft exposed readers to flaws in the ways in which their contemporaries viewed women and women’s roles; her writing presents stronger arguments for change.”
