In the early to mid-twentieth century, discourse about homosexuality was often couched in euphemisms, if spoken of at all. How is encoding of queer desires (homosexual and otherwise) enacted in literature? Is the aim subversive? Or does it seek to conform to heteronormative patters? Or perhaps both? Use one (or two if you wish) texts from this term to explore these questions.
I chose the novel “A Single Man” by Christopher Isherwood and I would like the body paragraphs to explain how George (the protagonist) is seeking to conform to heteronormative patterns and attempting to hide his indiscretions.
