Students will choose a film created/directed by an individual from one of the discussed ethnic groups (NO DOCUMENTARIES). Students will watch the film and write a 2 to 3 page paper (just an estimate) answering questions that will be provided in a writing prompt. The learning objective for this assignment is to be able to juxtapose and identify when people of color are represented from an emic perspective after having developed an understanding of misrepresentation and stereotypes. Please number your responses. At least 1 paragraph for each question. This is not an essay AT ALL please do NOT submit in Essay Format.
Questions:
1. Describe the main characters in the film including their age range, sex/gender, race/ethnicity, personality, language spoken, etc.
2. Give a brief summary of the movie. What is the theme of the movie and how does it relate to the class?
3. Was the film successful at portraying the characters in a non-stereotypical way? Why or why not?
4. What did you learn from this film?
5. What was the strongest emotion that you felt while watching this film? Explain and give an example.
