The following assignment goes as is:
We have briefly discussed museums and museum professionals in class. For this assignment, you will assume the role of a curator as you propose a hypothetical exhibition for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. An exhibition is a way for curators to explore any given theme, artist, medium, or time period by selecting and displaying objects for viewers that they believe tells a story about that given topic. Think of a topic you would like to explore and tell a story using objects.
This short piece of writing (500 words / 2 pages double-spaced) is meant to pitch your hypothetical exhibition to the museum’s upper-level management. Keep the following in mind:
– In your proposal, describe your project and give it a compelling title.
– Describe the kinds of objects you intend to include, and most importantly your main thesis.
– Why these objects?
– How will they teach the public about art history?
– How do you intend to display them?
– In what order?
-A proposal does not require you to have an exact plan, but rather a “big picture” idea of your intended project.
– Think about your audience (who will see and learn from this exhibition?) and your space (will you fill one room or several?).
– What is the overall experience you would like your visitors to leave remembering?
