Description 1. Choose one invention or product which has changed human everyday life, wellbeing, and/or health. This can be one of the inventions you chose for the formative assessment. Develop a research question that investigates a specific aspect of this invention. In order to do so keep the key concept (time, place and space), related concepts (causality; innovation and revolution), global context (identities and relationships), and the statement of inquiry in mind (see all of these below). Thinking about the concepts of history also helps in developing questions and structuring your answers: change, continuity, causation, consequence, significance, perspectives. 2. Create a 5-minutes-long presentation which answers your research question. Like an essay, there should be the following parts: – an introduction (five Ws of your invention: Who, What, When Where, and Why; the explanation and justification of why your research question is important and relevant) – three points which answer your question structure them like a PEEL – Point Evidence Explanation Link – paragraph as evidence for each point you should use historical facts (specific events and dates), and primary (statistics, data, images, newspapers, diaries, letters, government papers etc.) and secondary (historians’ opinions and interpretations; quotes) sources you must refer to: how does the invention improve people’s lives; how is the invention produced, distributed, and how easily available is it; how is the invention advertised to convince people it is needed and useful; how have governments regulated the invention with laws, patents etc. Find evidence for them a conclusion which summarises your evidence and where you give an overall answer to your research question – a bibliography in a recognisable format (MLA) Remember that your keynotes should be clear, aesthetically pleasing, and easy to follow while also listening to you speaking (i.e. don’t use too many images or graphs per slide; don’t use too much text but only put important keywords on your slides, the rest can go in your presenter notes). UPLOAD the presentation including your speaker notes as pdf (these can be two separate documents). —- The following resources are attached: – How to Write a Research Question – Evaluating Information Sources – Footnote MLA format – PEEL method —- Statement of Inquiry: “Innovation in medicine and technology affect, and improve, human health. These developments are mirrored first and foremost in our household and daily lives where material possessions and physical wellbeing have become increasingly important.” Key Concept: Time, place and space The intrinsically-linked concept of time, space and place refers to the absolute or relative position of people, objects and ideas. ‘Time, place and space’ focuses on how we construct and use our understanding of location (“where” and “when”). Related Concepts: Innovation and revolution; Perspective Global Context: Identities and Relationships Who am I? Who are we? Students will explore identity; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities and cultures; what it means to be human.
