Week 8 – Processes of Science Activities Explaining This week I want to look at explaining from two points of view: Helping you to explain things to your students or to answer their questions; Exploring sources for activities that require explaining. What do I do or where do I go when I do not know the answer? Do not let the fact that you do not understand a science topic thoroughly keep you from trying a lesson in that area. There are so many great on-line sources that can be found by googling. I wanted to alert you to a series of Stop Faking It books available through the NSTA. You can browse the website for further desciptions.. Notice that members get discounts on these books. They may be valuable additions to your teaching library. Where can I find explaining activities? Again, googling is a great way to find such activities. The websites below offer many free and easy activities that would generate in your classrooms interesting phenomena that need to be explained. 1. Choose one and try one of the activities below: 1. # 09 Floating or Sinking: 2. # 13 Cohesion/Adhesion: 3. # 16 Pressure: Google to find a source that gives a scientific explanation for what you have observed. You will be asked to share this in the Discussion Board this week.
