KNH 103 Professional Certification Project
The purpose of this project is to allow the student to conduct research on how to obtain additional certification or specialties in the fields of food, nutrition or dietetics. Certification is in addition to the registration requirements, for example to become a Registered Dietitian. For this assignment the student may choose any on going continuing education/certification program that is in the field of interest to the student. There will be an in class presentation and class discussion of the research conducted as well as a 1-2 page written report (double spaced) that details the requirements for the certification. Be sure to include answers to the following questions:
What is the certification?
What area of food, nutrition or dietetics are you interested in?
What are the requirements to be eligible for the certification?
How will having this certification add to the original educational requirements of the specific position? Such as if person is a Registered Dietitian, how will this additional certification benefit the professional?
Why did you choose this certification?
Is the certification renewable, and how many continuing education credits if any, are needed? For example, the AND requirements are that a Registered Dietitian needs to have 75 continuing education hours every 5 years.
Is there a required amount of clinical time required? For example, to become a Certified Diabetes Educator you will need at least 1000 hours logged and approved in order to sit for the exam.
Is there an exam that needs to be completed?
What fees if any are required?
Does the granting organization require a professional portfolio?
What are additional requirements or recommendations?

Use the following guidelines:
Report should be double-spaced, typed, and submitted on Canvas.
Margins should be 1 inch All around (No exceptions) – place your
name at the very top right side of page 1.
Use Times New Roman font with a size 12 and in black ink.
Proofread your review, it should not contain any spelling or
major grammatical errors.
