The essay should have a strong thesis statement, and you should draw from thoughtfully selected material to craft your argument. One of the goals of this midterm essay is to give you a chance to show your own critical engagements with the texts.

Media representations work to perpetuate limiting and harmful beauty standards. Analyze a recent film or TV series and argue the extent to which it perpetuates beauty standards based on gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, hair, etc. Consider: if the representation was negative, did you watch with an oppositional gaze?
