You are the manager of the medical-surgical unit with an average
daily census of 48. You use a 1:4 ratio of eight nurses per shift (See
Table 16-3 in your book). Complete the following tasks:
Calculate the nursing hours per Patient-Day (NHPPD) needed
to staff 48 clients for the 3- 11 shift.
Reflect on how your staffing decision may have a
positive/negative impact on the nursing staff to provide
efficient client care and the well-being of the nurse.
Describe factors which may impact communication about the new staffing decision.
