Globalization has been spreading quickly ever since Multinational Corporations (MNCs) have been investing abroad for centuries, in recent years globalization has made it possible for them to have even more options to relocate their operations (Thun 2008). “Recent advances in information technology, coupled with deregulation and market liberalization worldwide, have fueled an unprecedented surge in the growth of multinational corporations (MNCs). While some regard them as ruthless exploiters, others view them as benign engines of prosperity. […] They are reinventing themselves in diverse ways that confound the assumptions of critics and advocates alike” (Stopford 1998-9).
Some reasons that MNCs may not want to move their operations can be due to the specialized skills that local workers have which can make the decision to relocate more difficult (Stopford 1998-9).
