Analyze a film about dementia, evaluate therapeutic interventions with older adults with dementia, and propose a therapeutic intervention or stimuli that can potentially alleviate symptoms of dementia. Note. Disclosing of Information. In writings, share only the aspects that you want to share and aspects that you are comfortable sharing. For more information about disclosing of information, see University Policies in the course syllabus. Tasks For this assignment, complete Steps 1-3: Step 1: Watch the film Alive Inside: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9IHUPamCB4Links to an external site. In this film, you will see how ‘music’ was used to ‘wake-up’ older adults with dementia. Step 2: Write a 5-page Film Analysis and Reflection Essay. Divide the essay into 4 sections: Background Information, Summary, Analysis, and Proposal. Background Information Define what dementia is – including rates/prevalence, symptoms/signs and process, and approaches used by health professionals to detect or screen for dementia. (Hint: See Chapter 11 in Erber, 2019.) Describe one of the challenges to distinguishing dementia from other mental health/neurological disorders/conditions (e.g., Alzheimer disease). (Hint: See Chapter 11.) Summary Identify and summarize the main points in the film after watching it. Provide specific and relevant examples from the film to further support your points. Analysis Evaluate and explain the significance of creating and adopting appropriate therapeutic interventions with older adults with dementia. (Hint: See Chapter 11.) Proposal Identify and describe what other stimuli or therapeutic interventions (other than music as seen in the film) can have similar effect on adults with dementia. To support your claim/argument, Find two research or empirical articles on the intervention/therapy/stimuli you have selected (e.g., pet therapy, art therapy, etc.). (To learn more about how to find a research article, see How to Find Empirical Research Articles, and Finding Empirical Research Articles (Instructional Videos).) Summarize these two research articles. Provide specific and relevant examples to further highlight and support your summary points. (To learn more about how to read an empirical research article, see How to Read and Summarize Empirical Research Articles.) Provide empirical support for your claim/argument by applying the research information from the two articles.
