Taking inspiration from our discussion of fans, generate a work of creative “cultural production” that somehow engages with the characters, plot, and/or setting from a media text, past or present.
You are free to craft your story with any tone you see fit (dramatic or comedic, serious or tongue-in-cheek). The assignment can take a variety of forms. Written works of “fan fiction” or analysis should manifest as one single-spaced page. More than a page is fine and there is no penalty for going long. You may also elect to create a video, song, analysis, comic strip, art, etc. These should represent an an hour’s worth of thoughtful labor.
It will be evaluated for a) being a wholly original work of your own creative effort and b) grammar and syntax representing a thoughtful multi-drafted effort. Submissions that score a 75% likelihood or higher of being machine-authored without identification will receive no credit.
Here are some potential ideas to get you started:
What happened between one film, TV show, or book and the next?
How did the characters meet?
What will happen to them in the future?
What if the characters from one film or show met characters from another one?
What if the characters were transplanted to another time or place?
What if two characters became romantically involved?
What if the point-of-view shifted to a minor character?
What if the story was told by the antagonist’s point-of-view?
What if the story took place in another genre?
