SUPER IMPORTANT:
Before composing your outline, it is critical, that you have (1) a proper topic, and (2) a properly composed speech-thesis. Without a proper topic and speech-thesis, composing a proper outline is not possible! PLEASE consider inboxing me topic-examples and thesis examples, BEFORE committing to doing your outline…!
For topic direction, first review the directions for Persuasive Speech in Empowering Speech on page 19.
EMP SPCH CONTENT 2023 2024 PDF-6.pdf
The purpose of a persuasive speech is to influence the audience — both how they think and behave — by teaching them about a problem that they are unfamiliar with! PLEASE!!!! avoid topics like, but not limited to: global warming, obesity, the death penalty, prison over crowding, AIDS, gun control, etc., etc..A limited understanding of the world is painfully boring! Take some time to investigate the world you live in, and tell us something we don’t already know! And, like with the informative speech, you must be specific and focused. You should be able to state your topic in 3-words-or-less.
PROBLEM TOPIC EXAMPLES (You must be able to state your topic in 3-words-or-less, and topic must be a clear and obvious problem)
“Date rape”
“Road rage”
“Ebola”
“Human Papilloma Virus”
These topics, like the ones mentioned above, are old and played out – and therefore cannot be used. But you would not want to use them anyway, since you are an out of the box deep thinker, who likes to explore the world around them!
So, do your audience and yourself a favor…and find an interesting problem to discuss. We life in a really BIG WORLD, and there are a lot of interesting problems out there!
Tell us something WE DON’T ALREADY KNOW!
FOR 4 POINTS
1) Provide a problem-topic example, that is 3-words-or-less.
FOR 6 POINTS
2) Provide a speech-thesis example, 15-words or less, clearly declaring the topic. You could use the topic you intend to speak about, or if you have yet to discover a topic, you could use anything as an example, as long as it is a problem!
EXAMPLE TOPIC – “Sexually Transmitted Diseases”
Note – the topic alone, by definition, is clearly a problem, and is 3 words or less!
EXAMPLE THESIS – “Sexually transmitted diseases pose a great societal threat, and therefore must be addressed.”
Note – how clearly a problem for discussion is clearly set up in the thesis!
And – Just like with the Informative Speech:
– Your speech-thesis must be 15-words or less
– Your speech-thesis must be a single, declarative statement (not a question) of intent to speak about a problem.
– Your speech-thesis statement must be a complete sentence.
PLEASE feel free to inbox me topic examples you may be considering for your persuasive speech, and or any questions.
