For this project, we’ll be practicing looking up drug information! Download and complete the attached spreadsheet by filling in the columns with the Drug Information requested. You will have 25 drug entries in total. You can use epocrates.com or drugs.com to pick any 25 medications you want to! Please note-the example is a controlled substance-you do NOT have to choose medications that are controlled substances-you can certainly choose something like metoprolol or atorvastatin-blood pressure or cholesterol medications. I simply wanted you to have an example of what a controlled substance drug entry would look like!
Column B: Brand/Generic-list both names for your chosen medications
Column C: Where did you find the information? You can use online sources, library sources or a nursing drug reference. If you use a book please also give the page number.
Column D: Schedule: if the medication is a controlled substance (not all meds are!) you will mention this here…for example- Percocet (Oxycodone/Acetaminophen is a CII). If the med is not a controlled substance you can leave this column blank.
Column E: Class: Is it a diuretic? An antibiotic?
Column F: Is this medication safe to use in pregnancy? (There used to be categories A-D and X, this is changing as you read this! Eventually these categories will go away entirely and have more descriiptive directions when it comes to pregnancy…but you may still see them on some drugs).
Column G: What is the most common route (oral, iv, etc) and dose? You do not have to list them all but instead a range is helpful
Column H: What are some of the major or unique side effects?
Column I: What is the drug used for? Hypertension? Acne?
