Students will provide a brief introduction of the client’s presenting problem, demographics, cultural/ethnic identity, and intersections of identity. (minimum ½ page)
Students will provide a brief definition of self-reflection and explain three specific skills of self-reflection (mindfulness, attention, intention, attitude, strengths/weaknesses, cultural humility, empathy, self-other awareness, emotional regulation, etc.) they noticed the social worker use either prior or during the session with the client. (minimum ½ page)
Students will provide a brief definition of engagement and explain three specific skills of engagement (accurate empathy, open/closed ended questions, acknowledging differences/privilege, collaborative approach, etc.) they noticed the social worker use during the session with the client. (minimum ½ page)
Students will provide a brief definition of assessment and explain three specific skills of assessment (did social worker acknowledge client’s strengths, did he engage the client in critical thinking skills, did he accurately assess what was going on, did he discuss the client’s relationship to macrosystems, did he accurately engage the client productively in exploring racism, etc.) they noticed the social worker use during the session with the client. (minimum ½ page)
Finally, students will write a summary (minimum of one page) detailing their own self-reflection on this case, their initial thoughts and feelings after watching the video, strengths and weaknesses they perceive themselves having if they were the social worker, and what they think could have been done differently (if applicable).
