Part 1) From the assigned readings, identify and explain TWO learning outcomes related to the Nation Building: Education as an Indigenous Determinant of Health OR Examine Educational Inequities for Indigenous Children. FInish it off with one question about the theme.
Part 2) Reply to the following “One learning outcome of this week’s lesson is that there are a lot of Indigenous students who are hearing impaired. They will have more issues at school with being able to listen to what is being taught, so they will be disadvantaged in doing well in school. When a student is not able to hear correctly and clearly, they are not able to understand all of the learning material that is being taught. Some students will quit going to school because they are having a hard time following the learning material that is being taught. Indigenous children do not like to admit that they are not able to hear correctly. The children believe that wearing a hearing aid will cause shame and embarrassment when others find out about or see them. Another learning outcome was that many Indigenous students are not given the same opportunities as other children. They may not be given the proper supplies that other children are given. When they do not have the correct supplies, they cannot learn as the other children can. Every child should be given the same supplies no matter what race or culture they are from. If all children are given the same opportunity to learn then there would not be as big of a difference in the Indigenous child not attending school and not passing the learning standards that need to be passed. It is hard for some children to attend school because they know they will be treated differently than other students.”
