Book Critique — Important Things to Know—
Here is some information that will hopefully help you to do well with your book critique.

1. Be sure to answer all four questions from your syllabus fully. Please devote at least 2 pages to section I. You should give at least a full page to sections II, III, and IV. Always know, the more you write the better.

2. For Section Two, when I say “objective,” I want you to talk about the research and the statistics your book has to offer. If your book does not have an objective perspective—-THEN SAY THAT. Answer every question. Furthermore, if your book does not have an objective perspective, then devote a page showing examples of subjectivity (the author’s opinions).— Note**** All of your self-help books will have author’s opinions. ALL OF THEM. Section II should be at least a page.

3. In Section Three, do not forget to address overemphasis and omissions. If you feel there are no overemphasis and omissions—-then say that. If there are omissions and overemphasis, the describe those things. Section III should be at least a page.

4. In Section Four, don’t forget to tell me why this book was written and then make your recommendation. (This section should be a page as well).
**
5. Be sure to divide each section with Section I, Section II, Section III, and Section IV.
**
6. Don’t forget to submit a cover page. Create the cover page the way you want. However, you must submit a cover page.

7. All of the questions you need to answer are on the syllabus under WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT.

The written assignment for this course will be for the student to write a book critique on a “self-help book”- relevant to psychology. This written assignment is worth 100 points of your semester grade. You must give me the title of your book for my approval—before you begin your report. I will record your approval. Your book must be approved on or before March 24, 2024 before midnight. If your book is not approved by this date, 10 points will be deducted from your grade. The final copy of your book critique is due on April 2, 2024 before the end of class. If your book critique is not submitted by this date, 5 points will e deducted each late day. You will submit your book critique with FOUR SIMPLE SEPERATE SECTIONS. In your report answer the following questions:
1) Summarize the book? Be very descriptive. Of the four sections, this should be the longest. LABEL THIS DISCUSSION UNDER THE HEADING —-SECTION ONE
2) To what extent is the book objective, and to what extent is it subjective? Please be descriptive and address this question thoroughly. Note, in this context, the word objective refers to indisputable facts or demonstrated research. Also, subjective relates to the author’s opinions and personal ideas that are not necessarily based on research. You must answer this question and I expect you to be very descriptive. LABEL THIS DISCUSSION UNDER THE HEADING—–SECTION TWO.
3) What is your evaluation of the main ideas and assumptions of the book? Criticize and praise, agree and disagree, point out omissions and overemphasis, clearly justify your assessment fully. Be sure to elaborate and be very descriptive.

4) Why was this book written and who was the intended audience? Would you recommend this book, and if so to whom? Clearly state why you would or would not recommend this book. Be sure to elaborate and be very descriptive. LABEL THIS DISCUSSION UNDER THE HEADING—–SECTION FOUR.
5) Your report should be at least 5 typed pages, doubled spaced, and 12 font. Please submit a separate cover page for your work. Please type in TIMES NEW ROMAN.
Please do not bold print your work. Finally, please present the appropriate standard margins.
