The final project will be an online ethnographic assignment. Ethnography is most often associated with anthropology, but it is used across the social sciences. We will read many examples of ethnographic writing and instructors will provide you with some guidelines about the ethics and methods of ethnographic research.
Ethnography involves the participation in and observation of social life. Think about this project as your chance to “make the familiar strange.” For this assignment, you will analyze a safe, online space that you frequently use—e.g. Tik Tok, YouTube, or a fan fiction site. You should visit this site at least three times and take notes of your observations. Interpret what that interaction, activity or space teach us about power, normativity, gender, difference, or another big course theme
